MTech in Data Science and AI

Our program aims to equip students with in-depth knowledge and specialized expertise in data science and artificial intelligence, readying them for prominent positions in both industry and academia. You will undertake rigorous coursework, research projects, and hands-on training that sharpen your skills in areas like machine learning, deep learning, and big data analytics, among others.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have qualified in GATE 2024 in the newly introduced DA (Data Science & AI paper). Other GATE disciplines are not eligible for MTech admission to the Department. Other qualifications/scholarship opportunities follow from the standard IIT Madras rules and regulations (available here):

Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Four years B.S. degree from educational institutions approved by AICTE/ Government.
•
Master's degree in Chemistry/ Life Sciences/ Mathematics/ Physics related subjects from educational Institutions approved by UGC/ Government.
•
Degrees obtained through Distance Education/ Correspondence Mode for the qualifying degree specified above. The Departments will follow suitability test/ interview procedure for screening in such cases.
•
Candidates yet to appear or have appeared in the final examination for the qualifying degree specified above and whose results are likely to be declared by July 15, 2024.
•
Associate membership holders from professional bodies.
•
Foreign Nationals who have obtained qualifying degree in India/ Abroad.
•
Candidates with B.Tech. Degree from IITs with a CGPA of 8.0 and above can apply without GATE score.

Financial Assistance and Opportunities

Monthly Assistantship

Candidates who have completed 4 year degree program and admitted with Ministry of Education (MoE) assistantship (Half-Time Teaching Assistantship) will get ₹12,400/- per month for 24 months.

PhD Conversion

Meritorious M.Tech. students are eligible for conversion to Ph.D. programme after 1 year.

Industry Projects

Opportunities exist for M.Tech. students to carry out their projects in industries/ approved organizations/ foreign countries.

Exchange Programs

IIT Madras has special exchange fellowships like DAAD, and other overseas research opportunities.

Special Fellowships

Attractive fellowships from a few Govt. organizations and industries are also available for some disciplines.
