S. Lakshmivarahan

Prof. S. Lakshmivarahan is George Lynn Cross Research Professor Emeritus at the School of Computer Science, University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, and a WSAI Distinguished Fellow. He joined the University of Oklahoma in 1978 and served as faculty at the School of Computer Science for 41 years, retiring in 2019 after 46 years in academia. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Brown University, Yale University, and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (1973–1978).

He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (1973) and M.S. in Applied Electronics and Servomechanism (1969) from the Indian Institute of Science, and a B.E. in Electrical Technology (1967) and B.S. in Physics (1964) from the University of Madras.

His research interests span Dynamic Data Assimilation, Bigdata Analytics, Randomized Algorithms for Linear Algebra, Parallel Processing, and Learning Algorithms. He is the author/co-author of 7 books, over 97 journal papers, and over 120 conference papers, and has supervised 33 Ph.D. dissertations and 42 M.S. theses. His honors include being named an IEEE Life Fellow (2013), an ACM Fellow (1995), and induction into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame (2014).
